to those who lived and to those who died, to those who stood by no one's side, to those who found peace and to those who found war, to those who accepted the sins they bore, to those who left and to those who stayed, to those who believed in the gods they prayed, to those who lost and to who that won, to those who were left alone with none, to those who loved and to those who hated, to those whose destinies were never fated, to those sweet lies that no one believed and the merciless truths that all were deserved, May herald the word in joyful sorrow and all we have learned and all we have borrowed

     Fredrake awoke and stopped his alarm. He dressed in his normal suit and gray tie that matched his hair. He placed a liquid contact lens onto each of his eyes and blinked many times to get them to set. He looked over the collection of jars on shelf and glazed the tips of his hands over the glass of each one.     The simulated sunlight felt unnatural on his skin. Another one of the plants had died; shriveled and brown. It was once quite beautiful, but now it was dead. Fredrake shrugged and threw the jar into the trash. The glass audibly shattered among its brethren of the same fate.     He took a lemongrass from the shelf and cut the e
